A Lesbian Wedding at Loveland Pass, Colorado | Why Your LGBTQ+ Wedding Photographer Matters

I had the true honor of photographing Jen and Amanda’s intimate wedding at Loveland Pass this August. But I got to do more than photograph their wedding day. I got a little snapshot of their lives, surrounded by the people who matter most to them. I got to share in their laughter, witness the love between them, and create a connection that has continued long after their wedding day.

This is what I love most about working with like-minded couples. The experience goes beyond taking beautiful photographs. It’s about connection, trust, and creating a space where people can show up exactly as they are.

You deserve a wedding vendor who celebrates your love

Jen and Amanda lived near the Ohio border when they were planning their wedding. They shared with me that a wedding venue had turned them away because they were a same-sex couple. Hearing their story broke my heart.

Sometimes, it's easy to forget that discrimination still exists in the wedding industry. Planning a wedding should be an exciting opportunity to celebrate your relationship, not an experience where you have to wonder whether the people you hire will accept you.

As a queer wedding vendor, I don't just affirm LGBTQ+ weddings. I celebrate them.

I want every couple I work with to know that their love is welcome here. You don't have to explain your relationship, fit into a particular mold, or follow traditions that don't feel right for you. You get to be yourselves, love your person, and celebrate your relationship in a way that feels true to you.

How I knew I wanted to photograph queer weddings

The first wedding I ever second-shot was a gay couple's Colorado mountain elopement in 2016. Afterward, people asked me if I was disappointed because I wouldn't be able to share or post that wedding as much.

I remember feeling the complete opposite. I felt lit up.

My uncle asked me if I wanted to specialize in gay weddings, and I instantly knew that I did.

Ten years later, that feeling is still here. It has never been about checking a box or adding a label to my business. It's about the people I get to meet, the trust they place in me, and the privilege of documenting something as personal as their wedding day.

As a queer wedding photographer in Colorado, I know how much it matters to find vendors who see you, respect you, and genuinely want to celebrate your relationship. I want that to be something you can feel from the very first conversation with me.

Some couples stay with you long after the wedding

Amanda and Jen and I have stayed in touch over the last few months. They've become people who have genuinely impacted my life, and I hold them dearly in my heart.

Recently, they wrote me a review that brought tears to my eyes. It's one of those reminders of why I do this work in the first place. The photographs matter, of course. But the connections we make along the way? Those matter just as much.

I hope every couple who finds their way to me knows that I truly care about them and the story we're telling together. Whether you're planning a mountain elopement, an intimate wedding, or a celebration surrounded by all your favorite people, I want you to feel comfortable, supported, and celebrated.

You don't have to look a certain way, love a certain way, or build a wedding that looks like anyone else's. You just have to show up as yourselves.

Your love belongs here, and I'd be honored to tell your story.
